The Costa Rica Association of Medical and Dental Recovery Inns and Hotels (CRMD®)
Members of CRMD® are dedicated to providing medical and dental care to the highest standards through the operation of their recovery inns and hotels and to share with their fellow members a common responsibility for integrity and honor within the industry.

In recognition and appreciation of their obligations to medical and dental patients, guests, the public, and each other, CRMD® members continuously strive to become and remain informed on issues affecting the medical tourism industry, and as business owners and health providers, they willingly share their knowledge and experience with others. The COSTA RICA ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL AND DENTAL RECOVERY INNS AND HOTELS® (CRMD®) members agree to serve the best interests of the public and conduct their businesses with competency, fairness, and high integrity as well as adhere to a lofty ideal of providing the very best health care possible for medical and dental patients who are guests of Costa Rica and of CRMD® member establishments.

In the interpretation of this obligation, CRMD® members pledge to adhere to the highest degree of professionalism in their personal and business activities and to conduct their business in accordance with the tenets set forth below.

Responsibilities to Guests and the Public
Members agree to continue to abide by these guidelines, as amended.

Article 1
CRMD® members agree to treat all guests honestly, with respect, and provide exemplary customer service.

Article 2
CRMD® members agree to respect the mandate set forth by the COSTA RICA ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL AND DENTAL RECOVERY INNS AND HOTELS® Code of Ethics and Guidelines of Service, and implement them in their daily business in the spirit in which they are intended.

Article 3
CRMD® members agree not to disclose personal information or medical records of guests to persons other than the doctors or dentists having oversight and responsibility for the care of the guests.

Article 4
CRMD® members agree to conduct their business in a lawful manner, at all times respecting the laws of Costa Rica.

Article 5
CRMD® members agree not to knowingly recommend doctors, dentists or other medical practitioners that are not licensed to practice medicine or dentistry in Costa Rica.

Article 6
CRMD® members agree to avoid exaggeration, misrepresentation, in relating their services to guests or the public.

Article 7
CRMD® members agree to maintain control over their staff so as not to interfere with the doctor/patient relationship of guests with their medical/dental practitioners, and further agree not to give medical advice, whether to guests who are under the care of medical or dental practitioners, or to the public.

Article 8
CRMD® members agree not to provide medical services outside of their capacity and expertise. For example, surgery patients require close monitoring and emergency care, and major general surgery patients may require intensive care. Such patients should not be accepted as guests if the member is not equipped to provide proper medical care.

Article 9
CRMD® members are obligated to immediately bring adverse or life-threatening conditions of the medical guest to the attention of the guest’s medical or dental practitioner.

Article 10
CRMD® members understand that medical and dental guests may be unable to help themselves, and agree to have personnel available 24 hours a day to monitor and assist recovering guests.

Article 11
CRMD® members agree to cooperate among themselves to promote the interests of the public, their guests, and the government’s efforts to encourage a positive image of medical tourism in Costa Rica.

Article 12
CRMD® members agree to maintain independent business operations and not to conspire together to fix prices for rates or services.

Article 13
CRMD® members agree not to deny guest services to any person for reasons of race, color, religion, sex, handicap or national origin.

Article 14
CRMD® members agree to employ service personnel in their establishments who are fully qualified to perform the duties of the position.

Article 15
CRMD® members agree to be honest and truthful in their communications with guests and the public, and at all times present a true picture in their advertising, marketing, and other representations whether within the business establishment, on web sites, or in other advertising. When it becomes apparent that information in promotional literature, advertisements, or on a member’s web site is no longer current or accurate, members shall promptly take corrective action.

Article 16
CRMD® members agree to proudly display their CRMD plaque, certificate, logo, and wall display in a prominent and visible area of their business establishment and to display the CRMD logo on their web sites and appropriate letterheads, invoices and other literature.

Article 17
CRMD® members agree not to present advertising content in any way that produces a deceptive or misleading result, or to deceptively use metatags, keywords or other devices or methods to direct, drive or divert internet traffic, or to otherwise mislead the public.

Article 18
CRMD® members agree not to present advertising content in any way that produces a derogatory, misleading or demeaning picture of fellow members or to otherwise attempt an unfair advantage.

Responsibilities to other Members
Article 19
CRMD® members agree not to knowingly or recklessly make false or misleading statements to members about other members, their businesses, or their business practices.

Article 20
CRMD® members agree not to present advertising content in any way that produces a derogatory, misleading or demeaning picture of fellow members or to otherwise engage in anything detrimental to other members in an attempt to take an unfair advantage.

Article 21
CRMD® members agree, they will not knowingly or recklessly repeat, retransmit, or republish false or misleading statements made by others, whether in writing, via the internet, or by any other means.
