| The Costa Rica Association of Medical and Dental Recovery Inns and Hotels (CRMD®) |

The medical and dental recovery inns and hotels of Costa Rica, who are members of CRMD®, are unique and exceptional in the medical services they provide to the public. Their facilities and dedication to taking the best possible care of medical and dental patients visiting Costa Rica is unsurpassed.
By staying at one of our member’s medical or dental recovery inns, you can be assured of exceptional medical and personal care.
CRMD® member establishments are rated by the MediStar® system, a system which categorizes medical and Costar Rica dental recovery inns and hotels in an understandable way so the public can more readily discern the level of services provided.
The MediStar® categories and descriptions are as follows:

CRMD® Five MediStar® Class  |
The CRMD® Five MediStar® Class is a classification for full-service medical and dental recovery inns and hotels. The medical and dental recovery inns and hotels in this classification meet the following description:
Establishments, that: |
1. offer a minimum of 6 guest rooms.
2. include a kitchen, guest lounge, common areas, and internet access for guests.
3. do not allow pets or animals inside the building near recovering medical or dental guests.
4. maintain at a minimum, a business operating license and a health license.
5. have liability insurance coverage for guests.
6. provide transportation for guests to appointments.
7. employ at a minimum, one on-site full time nurse holding a Licensiatura or Auxiliary Nurse license (both registered nurses), and who is licensed in Costa Rica.
8. provide 24 hour medical care and a staff trained in CPR.
9. maintain written or digital medical records for recovering guests.
10. have bi-lingual nurse(s) who speak both English and Spanish.
11. have at least one wheelchair accessible guest room and major common area(s) and elevator(s), where necessary, for handicap and recovering medical guests.
12. have all meals available for all guests.
13. provide TV’s, private bathroom with shower, telephone and internet access in all rooms. Internet access may be fee-based or not.
14. have an area of private guest rooms exclusively for medical and dental guests and their companions.
15. provide and maintains medical equipment necessary to ensure good and reasonable care for medical and dental patients, including at a minimum the medical equipment necessary to check vital signs, provide emergency medical treatment and on-call emergency ambulance services.
16. provide emergency access to the closest hospital within 30 minutes or less under normal traffic conditions. |
CRMD® Four MediStar® Class  |
The CRMD® Four MediStar® Class is a classification for full-service medical and dental inns and hotels. The medical and dental recovery inns and hotels in this classification meet the following description:
Establishments, that: |
1. offer a minimum of 2 guest rooms.
2. include a kitchen, guest lounge, common areas, and internet access for guests.
3. do not allow pets or animals inside the building near recovering medical or dental guests.
4. maintain at a minimum, a business operating license and a health license.
5. have liability insurance coverage for guests.
6. provide transportation for guests to appointments.
7. employ at a minimum, one on-site full time nurse holding an Auxiliary or Bachiller Nurse license, and who is licensed in Costa Rica.
8. provide 24 hour medical care and a staff trained in CPR.
9. maintain written or digital medical records for recovering guests.
10. have bi-lingual nurse(s) who speak both English and Spanish.
11. have all meals available for all guests.

The CRMD® Three MediStar® Class is a classification for less than full-service medical and dental inns and hotels. Medical and Dental Recovery Inns and Hotels® in this classification meet the following description
Establishments, that: |
1. offer a minimum of 2 guest rooms.
2. include a kitchen, guest lounge, common areas, and internet access for guests.
3. maintain at a minimum, a business operating license.
4. employ at a minimum one full time, part-time, or on-call nurse licensed in Costa Rica; or one full time, part-time, or on-call patient assistant, who is either licensed or unlicensed. However, there must be someone on the premises for patient care at all times.
5. have liability insurance coverage for guests.
6. provide 24 hour medical care and a staff trained in CPR.
7. provide transportation for guests to appointments.
8. have bi-lingual nurse(s) who speak both English and Spanish.
9. have all meals available for all guests.
10. provide and maintains medical equipment necessary to ensure good and reasonable care for medical and dental patients, including at a minimum the medical equipment necessary to check vital signs, provide emergency medical treatment and on-call emergency ambulance services.
